Sylvester Stallone — Pics — The 1970s, one name has been synonymous with action movies, underdog stories and Philadelphia: Sylvester Stallone. Though he first won critical acclaim for his role in 1974’s The Lords Of Flatbush, it would be two years later that he would notch out his place in pop culture history. Rocky – written and starring Sly – became a world-wide phenomenon, launching a highly-successful (and quotable!) series. Sly’s other well-known role is that of John Rambo in the five Rambo films, starting with 1982’s First Blood, and leading up to 2019’s Rambo: Last Blood. Along with those two iconic roles, Sylvester has appeared in films like Death Race 2000, Cobra, Over The Top, Tango & Cash, Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot, Demolition Man, Cop Land, and The Expendables series. His directorial debut came with 1978’s Paradise Alley. He also directed Staying Alive, the sequel to Saturday Night Fever, as well as Rocky II, Rocky III, Rocky IV, Rocky Balboa, Rambo, and the first Expendables movie.
