He gained critical acclaim for his role as a cowboy diagnosed with AIDS in the 2013 film ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ and it earned him numerous prestigious awards, including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

He married Camila Alves in 2012 after they dated for six years and before the marriage, they had son Levi in 2008, daughter Vida in 2010, and son Livingston in 2012.
