Dita was was born September 28, 1972 as Heather Renée Sweet in Rochester, Michigan and has been dancing since she was a child. Beginning as a ballerina, she danced solo at the age of 13 before and stopped at the age of 15. Eventually, she made the professional move into being a wardrobe consultant for film and television with a strong passion for lingerie. During this time, she adopted the stage name Dita Von Teese as an homage to silent film star Dita Parlo and also began performing burlesque on the side. Gaining recognition as a model, Dita appeared on the 2002 cover of Playboy magazine and has since appeared on the catwalk for a number of high profile designers.

Dita married to Marilyn Manson in 2005 after four years of dating, however, the marriage ended in divorce by 2007. She has been in a romantic relationship with graphic designer Adam Rajcevich since 2014.
