Jane Birkin

Bio:
Jane Birkin (born Jane Mallory Birkin on December 14, 1946 in Marylebone, London, England) is an English actress and singer. Jane’s career broke out in the Swinging London scene of 1960s, appearing in the counterculture film Blowup and the psychedelic Wonderwall. Jane landed a role in the French film Slogan, co-starring Serge Gainsburg. She performed with him on the film’s theme song, the first of their many collaborations. Jane took a break from acting in the early 1970s but returned alongside Brigitte Bardot in Don Juan, or If Don Juan Were A Woman in 1973. Jane also appeared in Serge’s film Je t’aime…moi non plus, which was banned in the UK for it’s frank examination of sex. Her biggest role came in 1978, when she appeared in Death In The Nile, an adaptation of an Agatha Christie novel. In 1981, Hermès chief executive Jean-Louis Dumas was seated next to Jane on a flight. When he noticed that Jane’s bag was not to her liking, he sew together the first ever Hermès Birkin Bag. In 2014, Jane asked that her name be removed from the Birkin Croco bag due to the cruel methods used to acquire the skins.

Personal Life:
Jane married composer John Barry in 1965. They had a daughter, Kate Barry, before divorcing in 1968. From 1968 to 1980, Jane and Serge were in creative and passionate relationship. They never married but had a daughter, Charlotte Gainsbourg, in 1971. After Jane separated from Serge, she was involved with Jacques Doillon. They had a daughter, Lou, in 1982. They separated in the 1990s.
